What parts of the USA use Crawl Space Vapor Barriers?

Posted by The Plastic Sheeting Gurus! on Fri, May 05, 2023 @ 09:11

Why Use a Vapor Barrier?

It is important to reduce water vapor from entering a building because excessive moisture can lead to a range of problems such as mold growth, decay of building materials, and reduced indoor air quality. When warm, moist air enters a cooler building envelope, such as walls, floors, and roofs, it can condense and accumulate, leading to these issues.

A vapor retarder, also known as a vapor barrier, is a material that is designed to reduce the amount of water vapor that can enter a building envelope. It is typically installed on the warm side of the building insulation, which is the side facing the interior of the building. The vapor retarder works by reducing the rate of moisture diffusion through the building envelope, thereby minimizing the amount of moisture that can enter the building.

A vapor retarder can help to maintain a more stable indoor environment by reducing the risk of condensation, mold growth, and other moisture-related problems. It can also help to improve the energy efficiency of a building by reducing the amount of heat lost due to moisture migration.

What parts of the USA rely on vapor retarders?

  1. Coastal regions: Areas along the east and west coasts, including Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and California.

  2. Southern states: States in the southern region, such as Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky, and Texas.

  3. Midwest: States in the Midwest, including Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan, where there is a significant amount of moisture in the air.

  4. Pacific Northwest: States such as Oregon and Washington, where there is high rainfall and humidity.

Crawl space vapor barriers are typically installed in homes with a crawl space foundation to help prevent moisture from entering the home and causing problems such as mold, mildew, and wood rot. They are typically installed over the soil in the crawl space to create a barrier between the ground and the home, helping to prevent moisture from seeping through the foundation and into the home.

What is a Fumigation Tarp? What are they used for?

Posted by The Plastic Sheeting Gurus! on Thu, May 04, 2023 @ 09:41

Fumigation Tarps Explained

A fumigation tarp is a type of polyethylene film that is specifically designed for use in fumigation treatments. Fumigation is a process in which pesticides are used to eliminate pests, such as insects, rodents, and fungi, from various types of commodities, including stored grain, food products, and wood products. A fumigation tarp is a large, heavy-duty polyethylene sheet that is used to cover the fumigated commodity during the fumigation process.

The polyethylene film used for a fumigation tarp should be a high-quality, heavy-duty film that is specifically designed for fumigation applications. Some of the most common types of polyethylene film used for fumigation tarps include high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE). These films should be designed to be impermeable to gases, so that the fumigant remains contained within the covered area.

A fumigation tarp is needed when conducting fumigation treatments on commodities that need to be protected from pests or infestations. This could include stored grain, food products, wood products, or any other commodities that are susceptible to pests. Fumigation tarps are used to cover the commodities during the fumigation process, so that the fumigant can penetrate the commodity and eliminate any pests or infestations that may be present.

When selecting a fumigation tarp, it is important to consider the size and shape of the commodity to be fumigated, as well as the specific fumigation process and requirements. You should also consider the thickness and quality of the polyethylene film, as well as any additional features, such as reinforced edges, grommets, or tie-downs, that may be necessary for a successful fumigation treatment. Ask Global Plastic Sheeting for a quote that includes grommets, tie-downs, etc.

Painting the Kitchen Disaster!

Posted by The Plastic Sheeting Gurus! on Wed, May 03, 2023 @ 08:40

Once upon a time, there was a husband named Tom who thought he was Bob Vila's long-lost twin brother. He decided to surprise his wife Sarah by painting their kitchen and installing new cabinets while she was away visiting her mom. Tom was confident he could do a good job and save some money. Little did he know, he was about to learn a lesson the hard way.

Tom started off strong by painting the walls and installing the cabinets without any major hiccups. Well, that's when things started to go downhill.

Tom, in all his DIY glory, managed to knock over the paint can and ruin Sarah's beautiful countertops. As he frantically tried to clean up the mess, he ended up scratching the surface of the counters even more.

Tom did not do his research! He should have gotten some GPS Countertop Plastic to protect the counters. Countertop Plastic is a clear self-adhesive film that sticks to the counters and protects them during the DIY Job. Spilling paint wouldn't have been an issue at all.

When Sarah returned home and saw the mess, she couldn't help but laugh. "Oh Tom, you truly are a Picasso of destruction. I never knew painting could be a contact sport," she quipped sarcastically.

Tom sheepishly apologized, but Sarah wasn't done teasing him yet. "And here I thought I married a man who knew how to use tools. Next time, maybe we'll stick to finger painting," she joked.

Tom learned a valuable lesson that day - sometimes, it's better to leave things to the professionals or at least use the right tools for the job. But at least he provided some comic relief for his wife and got a good laugh out of it himself!

Why do husbands think they can do work around the house? I mean, let's be real here, we're not exactly Bob the Builder. But for some reason, we get this idea in our head that we can handle it all.

We see a leaky faucet, and we think, "Oh, I can fix that. It's just a simple plumbing issue." Next thing you know, you've got water spewing out everywhere like a geyser, and you're frantically trying to find the shut-off valve before the whole place floods.

Or maybe you decide to take on a painting project. You've seen it done before, how hard can it be, right? Well, before you know it, you've got paint splattered all over the walls, the floor, and even your dog. And don't even get me started on the time my buddy Dave tried to install a ceiling fan. Let's just say it didn't end well.

But the thing is, we husbands just can't help ourselves. We're wired to think we can handle anything that comes our way, even if we have no idea what we're doing. We'll watch a couple of YouTube videos, read a DIY blog, and suddenly we're convinced we're experts.

So, ladies, if your husband ever offers to take on a home improvement project, just smile, nod, and maybe suggest hiring a professional. Trust me, it'll save you both a lot of headaches in the long run.

How Was Fire Retardant Plastic Sheeting Invented?

Posted by The Plastic Sheeting Gurus! on Wed, Apr 26, 2023 @ 11:37

Fire Retardant Plastic Sheeting Was Born!

FR plastic Sheeting invented

Once upon a time, there was a powerful navy ship sailing the seas. It was a mighty vessel with a rich history of battles won and enemies defeated. As the ship sailed into port for its scheduled dry dock, the crew prepared to give it the maintenance and repairs it needed to keep sailing strong.

The sailors on board knew the drill - they would use fire retardant wooden planks to protect the deck during the dry dock period. These wooden planks were heavy, time-consuming to install, and had to be carefully treated to make them fire-resistant.

One day, a young inventor named Lee Hinsley approached the crew with a revolutionary idea. "What if we could design a fire retardant deck protection film?" he asked. "It would be much faster, easier, and lighter than the wooden planks you're using now."

The sailors were skeptical at first, but Lee Hinsley persisted, explaining that the deck protection film would be made of a special material that would resist fire. It would be easy to apply and remove, and could be stored on the ship without taking up much space.

The crew was intrigued and agreed to give Lee's idea a chance. They were impressed with the ease and speed at which the film could be applied, and the fact that it was much lighter than the wooden planks they were used to. Lee's invention proved to be a game-changer for the navy ship, saving time and energy during the dry dock process.

As word of Lee's invention spread, other ships began to take notice. Soon, fire retardant deck protection film became the standard for all navy ships, making Lee a hero in the eyes of sailors and inventors everywhere.

And so, thanks to Lee Hinsley's ingenuity, a simple but powerful invention changed the way the navy protected their ships during dry dock - proving once again that innovation and creativity can truly make a difference in the world.....True Story
