Erosion Control-Shorelines, Channels, Steep Slopes-

Enkamat R45-

Enkamat R45-Erosion Control-Shorelines, Channels, Steep Slopes-jpg

Shoreline Stabilization and Erosion Control Requires a High-Performance Geosynthetic

Enkamat® R45 is a unitized high-performance geosynthetic that incorporates a high tenacity polyester geogrid within the entangled filaments of the 3-dimensional turf reinforcement mat (TRM). The combination of a high-strength tensile member for reinforcement at low strains and the TRM for root entanglement provides unique properties for erosion control applications along shorelines, in channels, steep slopes and as a grip layer under vegetated veneers. Enkamat R45 is manufactured from nylon and polyester to eliminate the buoyancy factor associated with submerged conditions. Enkamat R45 replaces Enkamat S - the original High Performance TRM

 Enkamat R45 Recommended Applications

 Permanent erosion control for shorelines and green (vegetated) channels with expected shear stresses ≤ 20 psf and surficial stability for steep slopes (≤ 0.5H:1V).

 Support and enhance hydraulic and agronomic performance of ecosystem plants.

 Channel lining, shoreline or slope protection for erosion control applications with extreme hydraulic forces or where high modulus, high tensile strength is required.

How to Choose the Right Hight Performance Geosynthetic

Choosing the right high-performance geosynthetic for erosion control on steep slopes is crucial for long-term stability and preventing potential damage. Here are some key factors a consumer should consider:

Performance:

    • Tensile Strength: High tensile strength is essential for the geosynthetic to withstand the pull of gravity and soil movement on steep slopes. Look for values exceeding 20 kN/m for robust performance.
    • Permeability: Adequate permeability allows water to drain through the geosynthetic, preventing saturation and potential slope failure. Aim for a permeability rate of at least 1 x 10^-4 m/s.
    • Friction Coefficient: Good friction between the geosynthetic and the soil helps anchor it in place and prevent slippage. Look for a friction coefficient exceeding 0.3 for steep slopes.
    • UV Resistance: Exposure to sunlight can degrade geosynthetics over time. Choose a product with high UV resistance, especially for long-term projects.

Material:

    • Fiber Type: High-tenacity polyester or polypropylene fibers are common choices for their durability and strength. Avoid natural fibers like jute or coir, which can degrade faster.
  • Manufacturing Process: Needle-punched geosynthetics with a three-dimensional structure offer better soil anchoring and erosion control compared to woven or knitted options.

Specific Features:

    • Root Reinforcement: Some geosynthetics have integrated geogrids or other features to promote vegetation growth, which further stabilizes slopes and reduces erosion.
    • Seaming Compatibility: Ensure the chosen geosynthetic has compatible seams for proper installation and performance on complex slopes.

Additional Considerations:

    • Slope Angle: Steeper slopes require more robust geosynthetics with higher tensile strength and friction coefficients.
    • Soil Type: Different soil types may require specific geosynthetic properties for optimal performance. Consult a geotechnical engineer for recommendations.
    • Environmental Regulations: Some regions have specific regulations regarding geosynthetic materials for erosion control. Check local regulations before purchase.

Remember, consulting a qualified geotechnical engineer or erosion control specialist is crucial for choosing the best high-performance geosynthetic for your specific needs and slope conditions. They can assess the factors mentioned above and recommend the optimal product for long-lasting and effective erosion control on your steep slopes. sk Global Plastic Sheeting your questions.
