EnkaRain Drain/Colbond Rainscreen

The effects of water damage

Water can cause serious structural damage if not properly planned for and managed with modern building techniques. It can cause corrosion of metals, mold, mildew, efflorescence, and cracking, flaking, and discoloring of exterior and interior finishes. For years, manufacturers and construction associations have researched the cause and effects of moisture related structural damage. Based on this research, new building codes requirements are being written and adopted to protect building investments.

Why a rainscreen?

By creating a small cavity / air space < 3/4" between the weather barrier andexterior cladding, moisture has a placeto drain and evaporate completely. Climate conditions, rainfall, location, and exterior cladding are factors that should be considered when making decisions on what type of building envelope system to use.

Colbond commercial rainscreens

EnkaRain Drain 9714 combines a 95% open V-Groove matrix for continuous water flow and a filter fabric that prevents mortar or stucco from closing offthe drain cavity. In applications where a filter is not required, Enkamat 7004 and 5006 can be used.

How it works:

  • Relieves pressure that forces water through cladding and into building
  • Creates a cavity for continuous drainage and ventilation of building envelope
  • Promotes drying of condensation in wall assembly
  • Stops capillary movement of water through the wall
  • Any cladding can be applied directly over product
  • Compatible with all air barriers
  • Stucco

Exterior Walls Require Rain Screen or Drainage 2007 California Building Code Section 1403.2 "Weather protection. Exterior walls shall provide the building with a weatherresistant exterior wall envelope. The exterior wall envelope shall include flashing as described in Section 1405.3. The exterior wall envelope shall be designed and constructed in such a manner as to prevent the accumulation of water within the wall assembly by providing a water-resistive barrier behind the exterior veneer, as described in Section 1404.2, and a means for draining water that enters theassembly to the exterior."
